2018 Toyota Tundra Limited Slip Differential Features and Operation

It’s not enough for a heavy-duty pickup truck to have a large engine that can displace plenty of kick and punch. Often, the pressure to perform that we subject our pickups to requires high-tech features scattered throughout their drivetrains, that allow them to combat the elements and keep you moving with ease. When you’re tackling the terrain ahead, one of the biggest features you’ll want to keep an eye on is a Limited Slip Differential, a technology that is offered onboard the Toyota truck line’s flagship pickup. Come in with Hesser Toyota as we take you through the 2018 Toyota Tundra Limited Slip Differential Features and Operation!

How does the Limited Slip Differential in the 2018 Toyota Tundra work?

First things first, we’ll need to tell you a bit about differentials. Under your pickup truck lies many components and columns of your steering and powertrain, all of which work to supply torque (and brake power) to your wheels to help them get a good grip on terrains that may not provide for smooth footing. Differentials are put in place to harness the amount of power that is shifted to each axle, so as to prevent slippage of your transmission or your wheels.

The 2018 Tundra takes this idea one step further by introducing an Automatic Limited Slip Differential for the current model year. With this technology, it can individually apply the brakes to wheels that aren’t getting any traction. This also means that it doesn’t sacrifice engine strength to do this, which gives you a leg up when it comes to controlling and distributing the amount of power that is shifted throughout your truck.
